Arr. Matt Knoth
Key of G modal
Our instrumental version of this song came from the playing of Doc and Merle Watson from their 1984 album Down South. This poignant anti-war song has been erroneously associated with the American Civil War and the Confederacy. Although the origins of the song are unclear, it would appear to be from either Ireland or Nova Scotia.
Matt is constantly trying to marry Old Time music with the ambient music of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. That sound you’re hearing is EBO, or electronic-bow, on guitar strings.
